Meet Cute When Trevor went in for his first day working at an EdTech company in June of 2017, he had a clear goal in mind: Do the job, and do NOT fall in love. Unfortunately, the first person he laid eyes on was Cute. Not a problem, what are the odds he’ll be around this girl much? Uh oh, she’s new too, and she’s been assigned the desk next to his! Seems the odds were high. But he doesn’t have to talk to her, right? Edna had a goal in mind for this new work place as well. Be likable! Don’t be weird! And don’t fall in love! Easy. The guy sitting next to her seems friendly (and Cute). First thing she says to him is “Want to see my puppy?” Of course, he wants to see her puppy. This will be harder than they thought. Friends Edna and Trevor were fast friends. Turns out they had a lot in common! That’s convenient for a platonic friendship. They had some differences as well - Edna was very involved in live theatre! Trevor was not really into theatre at all (aside from seeing The Nutcracker at the age of five). Strangely though, Trevor suddenly became a patron of the arts. He attended all of Edna’s shows and would even go out with the cast for drinks after. He thought, “well, it would be rude to say no.” On days when one was out from work, the other would notice the day seemed longer, less joyful, boring even. Such good friends. Will They Won’t They Edna’s friends began to tell her that which she suspected but could not accept. “Trevor likes you.” Her friend Emily told her this in no uncertain terms. Her friend Katie went a step further, “you should date him. You’re yourself around him.” It wasn’t just Edna’s friends who were suspicious. Trevor’s parents had taken note of his sudden interest in live theatre. And rumors swirled about the office. People whispered “will they won’t they” jokes, even calling them the “Edmentum Jim and Pam”. Their friend Justin told Edna one day, “I want you and Trevor to be friends!” “We are friends!” Edna replied. Justin paused before a sly “more than friends…” Though Trevor had feelings for Edna, he feared ruining their friendship. He also had the patience of a saint and was willing to “wait for the right moment”. To Lovers Almost 2 years had gone by, and Edna had realized that not only did Trevor like her, but she liked him. Furthermore, she was convinced that they were meant to be together. Edna was not patient. “Why won’t he ask me out?” She complained to her roommate, Dakota. “Marry him” was Dakota’s advice. “He WON’T ASK ME OUT!” Edna had begun dropping subtle hints that she was interested. Texting him frequently, being VERY friendly, and inviting him to parties. When subtlety failed, she even went so far as to kiss him at a party. Surely, this must be a clear message. “Friends kiss all the time” Trevor thought. “This must be one of those theatre kid things. There’s no way to be sure how she feels.” Enough was enough. So, on a Sunday evening in March, Edna invited Trevor over to her house to watch Xanadu. That’s right. Xanadu. He must recognize this as a ploy. Trevor yet again thought this just another weird theater thing, and wasn’t sure why he had just sat through a rollerblading, drugged out musical. So! Edna walked him to the door and he said “See you at work tomorrow!” This is where the version of events differs between the two. But Edna’s is the correct version so that is what has made the final draft. “WAIT,” said Edna, stepping outside and closing the door behind her. Trevor trembled where he stood. “Do you want to date me?” Edna demanded. Trevor's heart ceased to beat. Once it resumed its rhythm, he said “Yes. I do want to date you.” (And according to his incorrect version that is when HE asked HER out.) And the rest is history! They went on many dates and had many adventures. On April 19th of 2019, Trevor asked Edna to be his girlfriend. And on April 2nd of 2023, he asked her to marry him. And now, on their five year anniversary, they shall be wed.
