Lissete and I met in the Army during a season when we were both walking through difficult times. I wasn’t looking for a relationship. I was discouraged and focused on getting through the day. But as we kept crossing paths and talking, something changed. Around that time, I read the verse, “Behold, I am doing a new thing,” and it stayed with me. We began to talk more intentionally and got to know each other on a deeper level. Eventually, I found the courage to be honest about my feelings for her, even while wanting to preserve our friendship. What began quietly and unexpectedly grew into something meaningful that neither of us could have planned.
