About two years ago, two well-traveled souls crossed paths in Washington, D.C. Travis came to the city to find a career in international development. Mary came to the city to find new sights, new trails, and a decent public transportation system. Little did these two know that they would also find their soulmates. Before the two met, you could find each of them camping, biking, climbing, and hiking. Naturally, Erin and Josh invited the two to join a three day group backpacking trip in Shenandoah. The group decided to meet at a beer garden beforehand to get acquainted. Upon meeting Travis for the first time, Mary asked him to tell her his story and the two instantly connected on a shared passion for travel, books, adventure, and peace. On the backpacking trip, Travis and Mary learned more about each other's life dreams, philosophies, and quirks. Both wanted a partner with whom they could adventure and start a family one day. Not too long after the trip, Mary and Travis went on their first date. What started as an afternoon walk through Brookland turned into a full day conversation. That day turned into many more and the two have decided to keep the streak going. This past fall, Travis, Mary, and Christa biked 50 miles to Harpers Ferry, where they met up with more friends for another camping weekend. The next day, the group hiked to look out over the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. After convincing Mary to climb up a particular rock for the perfect proposal spot, Travis gave Mary his grandmother's ring and proposed that they spend the rest of their lives together. Mary and Travis love sharing life with each other through every adventure. We hope this celebration can spark an adventurous spirit in you too.
