Kait and Travis met at the University of Arkansas in 2016 while Travis was working on his Master’s degree and Kait was entering her Junior year. Kait had taken a summer job at the research station where Travis was working. They sheepishly flirted throughout the summer, but no real move was made by Kait or Travis. With Kait’s birthday coming up in July, Travis had subtly gathered details on Kait’s favorite type of cake, birthday plans, and… FINALLY… her number. On her birthday, Travis brought a homemade yellow cake with chocolate icing to work to celebrate with their coworkers (Travis’s friends still tease him about how dry the cake was). Kait had a hunch that Travis might ask her out since he knew she didn’t have plans for the evening and had made a cake from scratch just for her. But by the time they left work for the day, Travis still hadn’t asked! When Kait got home, though, her phone rang and, sure enough, it was Travis asking if she would like to go to Hammontree’s, a local Fayetteville favorite. After dinner, they ended up chatting for hours in her car. Travis walked her to her door at the end of the night and sweetly said he couldn’t wait to see her the next day!
Once Kait and Travis moved to Pennsylvania and started their graduate programs in the fall of 2018, Travis began planning to propose. On a visit home to Texas, Travis visited several jewelers to find the perfect ring (luckily for him Kait had some prior suggestions!). While spending Thanksgiving with Kait’s father, Lonnie, in Hot Springs, Travis showed Lonnie a picture of the ring and asked for his permission to marry his daughter. He graciously obliged, and now it was time to plan the actual proposal! Over the Christmas holiday, Kait and Travis planned a date night to visit the Dallas Arboretum for their annual Christmas display. Travis had decided that this would be the night he would pop the question after several unexpected changes in locales over the holidays. After enjoying the Arboretum light tour, and a close call from Kait almost feeling the ring box in Travis’s jacket pocket, the two stopped by the main Christmas tree display to snap a picture. They took a traditional couple photo, and Travis asked to take one more picture (which was out of the normal for him). Then Travis turned to Kait, kneeled down and asked Kait if she would marry him. She said YES! After first meeting back in the Summer of 2016, Kait and Travis were now engaged 2.5 years later!
We've waited long enough. We can't wait to celebrate with you all.
