The Papal Palace was built as the summer residence for the Pope in the 17th century. The palace dominates the town and occupies a scenic position overlooking the lake, with picturesque gardens.
The road which runs along the lake is lined with restaurants and bars on one side and beach clubs on the other. There are several places offering boat, pedalo and kayak hire, as well as bicycle rentals to explore the surrounding areas.
Castel Gandolfo is just a 40 minute train ride to Rome's Termini Station and all that the city has to offer from various monuments, palaces and religious buildings to great restaurants and bars.
The main square, Piazza della Liberta, is dotted with cafés and shops and there are several restaurants with panoramic balconies affording spectacular views.
Great place for food and drinks, over looking Largo Albano. We will be having our Welcome Reception here on Friday but worth a visit if you don't make it!
Nice little family owned restaurant that we visited on our first trip to Italy
For a low-key, informal spot for good-value drinks and dining down by the lake.
A short stroll from the papal residence, welcoming restaurant with a classic Roman menu and friendly staff.
