Rental Car

Arriving by Car

New Haven is easily accessible by car--in fact, if you've traveled from New York to Boston or vice-versa you've probably been stuck in traffic outside of the city. Generally speaking, we advise using and following a GPS (e.g., Apple Maps, Waze) when driving as those services can help you avoid traffic based on when you are traveling. The Study at Yale has limited street parking available nearby, if you are staying there, we recommend using their valet service which is $32 per night.

Train

Arriving by Train

There are two main options for traveling to New Haven by train: Amtrak and MetroNorth. Amtrak is available from both North and South (Boston, New York). The destination is New Haven - Union Station. Amtrak tickets must be booked in advance. Pricing varies by departure time and booking date, but Northeast Region tickets are generally available for under $100 per person. MetroNorth is only available when traveling from New York City. The MetroNorth departs from Grand Central. The destination is New Haven - Union Station. MetroNorth trains depart approx. twice an hour throughout the day, all days of the week. MetroNorth tickets do not need to be booked in advance, though we recommend purchasing your tickets via MTA Train Time app (available for iOS and Android) prior to boarding the train to avoid additional fees.

Flight

Arriving by Plane

There are several airport options within commuting distance of New Haven. New Haven Tweed Airport (HVN) is the closest of the options but also the smallest. Only a few regional airlines service this airport, and these airlines primarily offer service to/from large hub airports on the East Coast (e.g., Atlanta, Orlando, DC). Travelers can easily access Downtown New Haven from HVN via ride-share. Hartford Bradley Airport (BDL) is the next closest of the options and slightly larger than Tweed. Bradley offers services from large national carriers such as American, Delta, and Southwest. Bradley is approximately one hour from Downtown New Haven by car and can be accessed via ride-share or the CT Rail. Please inquire with Chris/Bridget for more information on accessing Bradley. The New York area airports are the next closest/accessible. These include LaGuardia Airport (LGA), John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), and Newark Liberty Airport (EWR). These are some of the largest airports in the nation and between them offer service from anywhere globally. If choosing between one of these airports, we recommend JFK as it is the most easily accessed by public transportation to/from Downtown New Haven. Boston Logan Airport (BOS) is the furthest option. Logan offers service from most airlines and most destinations, globally. Travelers can commute from Logan to Downtown New Haven by car or by booking an Amtrak train ticket.

Travel Note

Getting Around New Haven

There are a few different ways to get around New Haven. We will providing transportation from The Study at Yale to the ceremony. We will also be providing transportation from Gioia, the reception restaurant, to the afterparty and to the The Study at Yale. Downtown New Haven is fairly walkable. Most places are in close proximity to each other, sidewalks are well-lit, etc. We do not recommend straying too far from Downtown New Haven however as distances grow quickly and lighting is not always the best. There are generally plenty of ride share drivers (e.g., Uber, Lyft) available for use as needed. If a taxi or other service is required, please let Bridget and Chris know and they can provide additional information. If you plan on driving yourself, keep in mind that New Haven has limited parking options, especially in the Wooster Square neighborhood.

For all the days along the way
