We first met our sophomore year in high school. Rodney transferred into my English class at least two weeks into the new year. I walked in and asked, "Who's the new kid?" We sat two desks apart, he fell in love with my hair, we worked on a project together and the rest is history.
Big Sur is one of Rodney and I's favorite places and he knew this is where he wanted to pop the question. Considering Mar, Rodney's cousin, and I are always looking for our next outdoor adventure, he knew she was the perfect person to help him facilitate the surprise. Together, we planned a weekend trip for us all that, conveeeeeeniently, fell on the weekend of our dating anniversary. We had hikes, dinners, seal beach visits and castle tours scheduled. Mar made several mentions to a beach with a cute boardwalk trail she wanted to visit. We made it just as the sun was coming down. Not surprisingly, I ventured a little off the beaten path to get a better view of the seaside and sunset. Rodney followed after me and we found ourselves alone on the cliffside. Don't ask what was said, neither of us remember, but before I knew it he was down on one knee. I knew it was going to be a great weekend but I had NO idea. At one point, I turned around to Mar and her husband, Jon, and yelled out, "You guys knew about this?!" with a smile on my face.
