Question

Will the high altitude in Colorado affect me, and how can I prepare for it?

Answer

Welcome to Colorado! The higher elevation here can be a big change, especially if you're coming from sea level. Here are a few tips to help you adjust to the altitude 1. Stay Hydrated – The air is drier at higher elevations, so it's important to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. 2. Take It Easy at First – Give your body time to adjust. We recommend you to come a few days before the wedding so your body can adjust. Avoid strenuous activities for the first day or two, especially if you're feeling winded or dizzy. 3. Rest and Listen to Your Body – Fatigue is common in the first few days. Take naps or breaks as needed. 4. Eat Light and Balanced Meals – Eating a healthy diet can help your body adjust better. Avoid heavy meals that might make you feel sluggish. 5. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine (for the first day) – Both can dehydrate you, which is something you’ll want to avoid when adjusting to a higher altitude. 6. If Recommended by Your Doctor – Some people may benefit from taking a low-dose aspirin (like 1 baby aspirin) daily starting a week before arriving in Colorado. Please check with your doctor if this is a good option for you. 7. Symptoms to Watch For – Mild headaches, shortness of breath, or feeling lightheaded are common. However, if you feel very sick, it’s important to seek medical attention. 8. Give Your Body Time – Most people start adjusting after a couple of days. If you plan on doing activities like hiking or skiing, take it slow and listen to your body. *If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important to seek medical attention.
