Ryan and Tori briefly met in class in dental school, but hardly knew each other until one fateful evening. They were driving separately to a mutual friend's house (find him in the wedding party!) and happened to be following one another without knowing. Tori aggressively cut Ryan off and Ryan let her know it by honking his car horn in return. They then continued to follow one another with Ryan ahead until their GPS led them to a dead end. Ryan saw this silver car following him and knew it was the person he pointed his road rage at earlier and thought "This is how I die," as he looked forward at the dead end. He quickly turned his truck around, only to shine his headlights at the silver car. You can imagine the relief Ryan felt when the lights hit the windshield and he saw that it was only Tori smiling back at him. They remained friends for about 2 years after that before their friendship eventually blossomed into the love they have today!

Once Ryan realized it was time to seal the deal, the only thing left to do was plan the proposal! Ryan knew that Tori wanted a surprise, so he brought her to San Diego for “his birthday” to “visit his dad”. Ryan arrived by himself a day early and secretly toured the Japanese gardens with his dad to find the perfect spot. The next morning, the three returned to the gardens for the big day. The weather couldn’t have been better - 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky (but that didn’t stop Ryan from sweating). After strolling around the gardens for a while with an undercover photographer trailing behind them, they had finally arrived at the perfect spot overlooking the park. Ryan asked Tori to turn around so he could take a picture of her; when she turned back, she was shocked to find him on one knee holding the ring!
