We met later in life after navigating the many twists, turns, and questionable decisions of our 20s and early 30s. Danny, originally from Nebraska, was living in San Francisco, thriving in the tech world—and, fun fact, had lived in the city longer than Tori. Meanwhile, Tori, a Bay Area native, had moved around the country for work, exploring and experiencing different places before returning to San Francisco after a bold career leap from corporate life to public service. Neither of us was expecting to meet someone at the time, but as life often goes, we found each other when we least expected it. Early on, Danny learned Tori’s full name was Victoria, which he thought was elegant and beautiful—though Tori took a little convincing to warm up to it. It didn’t take long to realize how well our personalities clicked—Danny’s outgoing, fun-loving nature perfectly balanced Tori’s calm, grounded demeanor. And yes, Danny’s early days as a sprinter on the football field might give him the edge in a sprint competition, but he quickly learned that a “short run” with Tori was never short. As the youngest siblings in large families and former college athletes—Danny in football and Tori in cross country and track—our shared competitive streaks have added plenty of humor and mutual respect to our adventures together.
