Kiel and Torell’s story might be a long and windy one, but it’s one where fate brought them together. Kiel and Torell met at the University of Idaho in the fall of 2016, during their senior years in Groundwater Hydrology class. They didn’t talk much during class…Torell was busy with her final season playing soccer and Kiel was busy with club hockey and having a good time with his friends on the weekends. At the end of the semester, the Idaho Vandals football team made it to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and Torell and her friends, as well as Kiel and his friends all made the journey to Boise to watch their Vandals win a bowl game! Later that evening everyone was celebrating the win at a bar in town, where Torell and Kiel finally met, they immediately bonded over their love of hockey. They got to know each other over the rest of their senior years, then each went their separate ways, Kiel to Alaska to work on a hatchery on a remote island and Torell to Colorado to attend grad school. Even though they went their separate ways, they never lost touch, they visited each other in the various states they lived in over the years. As 2020 rolled around, Kiel decided to go to grad school to get his masters, this is where fate begins to play a roll… he ended up getting a scholarship to UT Health in Houston, Texas, where Torell was currently living and working. Kiel moved to Houston in the fall of 2020 and they began officially dating from there! Since then, Torell and Kiel moved into a house together, Kiel accepted Olive (Torell’s dog) as his own, and they have been traveling the world together as much as they can. Kiel took Torell by surprise and proposed to her in July of 2024 while they were on a helicopter tour of Matanuska glacier in Alaska. They are so excited to start the next adventure of marriage together and see where life takes them next!
