We met at a 90s skate party for a mutual friend from Hope City. He tagged me in the group pic on Instagram and slid into my DMs with "I love your hair!", which he claims was the most Christian compliment on his mind that night. LOL We mostly talked through social media over the next year and saw each other when we served together for the worship team. I got brave on Instagram one weekend and told him I wanted to get to know him. That resulted in us hanging out after The Hopies and talking on the phone until 5 AM, and we've talked or seen each other every single day since then. He asked me to be his girlfriend on October 25. That was the date my mom passed several years ago, and he redeemed that day for me. Since then, we've been through a lot of life together - career changes, grief, ministry opportunities, and so much more. And we've learned that we're quite the team! Several deep conversations and taco dates later, we found ourselves envisioning a future together. On April 20, 2019, Tony got down on one knee in front of the entire Hope City Easter choir and production team at rehearsal to ask for my hand. The question didn't surprise me one bit, but the dramatic proposal surely did. It was my 30th birthday and we had plenty going on that weekend preparing for Easter services. I never imagined that Tony, Pastor Richie, and the team would go to so much trouble in the middle of all that to make my proposal special. I'll never forget it! As we thought about when to get married, October 25 came up as the perfect date. Our wedding anniversary will be our dating anniversary, and that day will forever have a beautiful meaning.
