We met the spring before Cara moved to Cincinnati for law school. On our first date, Tony brought Cara a bouquet of flowers so big that it needed its own chair on the date. That summer, we met up for dates in Piqua, OH, (in the middle of Cincy and Toledo) and talked on facetime for hours every night. When Cara finally moved to Cincinnati, we felt so lucky to live in the same city. Tony incorporated Cara into his community and educated her on the world of soccer. Cara's family and friends immediately noticed the peace Tony brought to Cara's life. They championed his steadiness, patience, and wisdom in decision making. When Tony asked Jim if he could marry Cara, it was an easy yes. Before we met, we had both been looking for a teammate equally dedicated to following Christ with their life. We are very different people. Our energy is engineer sports analyst meets garden princess warrior. However, we share the same direction and goals since we both belong to Jesus. We look back on our dating story and see clearly the times the Holy Spirit protected our relationship, gave us insight to understand the other person's point of view, or equipped one of us with extra energy to carry the team when the other person was tired. We believe that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control all exist where the LORD is. Throughout our dating relationship, we have depended on Jesus's model for sacrificial love and grace, and we will continue to do so in marriage.
