In June of 2018, Toniann was playing on a beach volleyball team with Maggie (her dear friend and the sweetest angel ever), and Maggie had told her that one of her coworkers, Fran, was joining the team. Toniann was in charge of collecting the money, so she was already annoyed because it was her birthday that day and she just wanted to play volleyball. At the beach she heard Maggie talking to Ray about work and assumed he was Fran. Little did she know, Ray was another coworker who was just there to fill in for Fran for the first two weeks of the season. Toniann went up to Ray and told him that since he was on the team he needed to give her the $67 team fee so she could go pay. Ray looked her up and down and said, "I don't owe you anything." There was a bit of back and forth before Toniann realized that she hadn't bothered to introduce herself or ask his name (which is embarrassing, brazen, and totally wrong). Despite their interesting start, Toniann and Ray would stay at the beach after volleyball to talk until being kicked out of the parking lot. They exchanged numbers (again through Maggie) and began doing bar trivia together, still staying after in the parking lot to talk through the nights, and finally had their first official date for Toniann's first viewing of A League of Their Own in July of 2018. Every day since then has been the best day ever. Ray proposed to Toniann on January 9, 2022 during a Sunday dinner/COVID-delayed family Christmas party. The first words out of her mourh were “No, don’t joke about that.” Since they fell in love under the night sky all those years ago, they can't wait to celebrate their wedding the same way on January 15, 2023 with all the people they have been so lucky to share their love with over the past few years.
