In April 2018, we began our journey by ‘swiping right’ on each other (thank you Bumble!). From the beginning, both of us knew it was something special. In May 2021, we embarked on a 10-day Colorado road trip. Our first stop was Rocky Mountain National Park. What was supposed to be a 1.5 mile hike to Emerald Lake ended up being 6 miles after waking up just 5 minutes too late and missing the last few parking spots near the trail. It was early enough in the day so we decided to go for it. What started as a clear, dry trail quickly turned into an icy, snowy path. We hiked up a frozen waterfall and into a light snowfall at the peak. At the top, we hiked off to a small secluded section where another couple was admiring the local birds. After nervously walking around, setting up the tripod for 20 minutes and noticing a snow storm coming in, Tyler finally decided it was now or never. He got down on one knee and asked Diana to spend the rest of their lives together. This moment was quickly interrupted by a marmot rummaging through our backpack and to our amazement, peeling our banana and eating it in front of us with a “what are you gonna do about it?" attitude. After seeing the storm pick up, we decided to make our way back out. After the snow turned to a heavy downpour, we decided to take the road as a faster option. Tyler decided to try his luck at hitchhiking and finally flagged down a very suspicious white unmarked van. As we got into the back of the van and noticed it was completely empty, we glanced at each other wondering if we had made the right choice. We were relieved to find out the van was just the most budget-friendly rental option and our saviors were a lovely, recently engaged couple as well! They saved us about 6 miles of additional hiking and dropped us off at our car where it was bright and sunny. The rest of the road trip was a blur as we rode the high of our engagement. Colorado will always hold a special place in our hearts. When it came to planning our wedding, we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate our love than where the beginning of the rest of our lives began!
