DC's first trip to China! In 2009 I was a 1st time tourist in Beijing. I interpreted tourist menus, eyeballed odd shelled treats in the markets, climbed the Great Wall, and discovered no one accepts imperfect cash. After seeing the signature attractions and mandatory photo with Mao in Tiananmen Square, I knew I would return. DC first meets Tone! Fast forward to 2013, while in school I interned at Dell in Austin, Texas. That summer I caught sight of a beautiful lady and fellow intern. I was alerted that she was taken and to stay away, so the quest for the perfect woman remained. DC meets Tone a 2nd time! 1 year later, I joined Dell with a new life in Austin. Soon after, I was advised to speak to Miss Tone about my project which was similar to hers. We met, sparks flew, and nothing about work was discussed. I suggested sushi and kayaking on the weekend, where Tone introduced me to the baby beast Bebe who came to dine and row. Looked promising. 2 weeks later, I celebrated my bday with a bbq, and Tone couldn’t make it. I was bummed, so I invited her and Bebe for a leftover steak, which all three enjoyed. 2 weeks later we were on the same team, sharing cubicle walls and coffee breaks. The bond was inseparable. DC returns to China with Tone! In 2015, we toured China from Tone’s hometown Zhengzhou to Hangzhou. The historic lakeside town inspired poets from the beginning of time and even the back of the currency. Thanks to Tone, signs became interpretable, food became less mysterious, and street vendor prices went down. Hangzhou was special. I reflected the easiest way back to China was through marriage. DC proposes and Hangzhou is the destination! The proposal came the day after Christmas 2016. My brother Javier and wife Natasha coordinated a perfect, captivating sunset on the cliffs of San Diego, generating a record FB likes. After sunset at 4:48pm, a poem, and some confusion, Tone said yes. Here we are from Austin’s tranquil West Lake to Hangzhou’s serene West Lake!
