OUR STORY

It was never in Tommy’s or Grace’s plans to end up at Dallas Baptist University—but God had better plans. Grace’s childhood dream of playing collegiate basketball came to an end after suffering multiple head injuries. Around that time, her dad introduced her to Dallas Baptist University as it was one of his clients (secretly hoping Grace would choose a school that was close to home) and Grace felt like God was telling her this was the place for her. Though she initially thought she wanted to major in entrepreneurship, she knew deep down she would regret not pursuing a path in medicine.

Tommy’s journey looked different but led to the same place. He began his college career at Ouachita Baptist University on a baseball scholarship. During COVID, he made the decision to transfer to DBU to be closer to family. Soon after, a back injury brought his baseball career to an unexpected end. What felt like a loss became a turning point, opening his eyes to a calling in medicine inspired by those who had cared for him through his injury.

At DBU, Tommy and Grace shared several classes without ever really talking—until an Organic Chemistry study group brought them together. What started as long nights of studying slowly grew into a deep friendship filled with Sonic runs, late-night Guana Taco stops, trips to Red River, and countless spontaneous adventures. By their senior year, that friendship had become something more. Though they tried to resist their feelings as they didn't want to ruin their friendship, it became obvious to their close friends that Tommy and Grace had started to enjoy “studying” a little too much.

They chose to wait until after graduation to begin dating, and in a moment only God could orchestrate, they walked across the graduation stage one after the other and took their seats side by side. Eventually, they went on their first official date—at the very romantic Medieval Times—marking the beginning of a new chapter.

Soon after, Grace moved to Austin to attend Anesthesiologist Assistant school, while Tommy remained in Fort Worth to earn his master’s degree in biomedical sciences. Despite distance and demanding schedules, they continued to choose one another, trusting God’s plan for their future. When Tommy was accepted into medical school and learned he would be headed to Colorado, he knew he wanted his best friend by his side. On August 7, 2025, he asked Grace to be his wife. Now, with full hearts and unwavering faith, Tommy and Grace are overjoyed to be married on June 27, 2026. They cannot wait to celebrate with the people they love most—the ones who have shaped them into who they are today. “The Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” Psalm 118:23
