The Proposal

I knew I wanted to propose, but I did not know how. I purchased the ring in the Summer, thinking that at some point, the perfect opportunity would arise. I felt like I had several opportunities over the coming months including romantic dinners at small local establishments, her sister's wedding, family gatherings, nights out with friends, etc. Nothing felt right. As time grew closer to our trip to Panama, I had a feeling this would be the right place. We were planning to stay close to the beach for a couple of days and I would take full advantage. I would have the hotel staff bury a bucket of champagne in the sand and I would write will you marry me next to it. I would walk her out to the beach and unknowingly stumble upon the scene at sunset. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I found that the waterfront was closed off. Over the next couple of days I loss sleep trying to figure out how I could make this proposal special. I engaged strangers for help and got some great ideas that ended up falling through. While staying in downtown Panama, I worked with the hotel manager to reserve the rooftop space for my mission. We formulated an elaborate plot with chocolate dipped fruits and champagne, candle light, and soft music overlooking the city. I would take Lydia out for a very special dinner and when we returned to the hotel I would give the staff the signal to setup. I gave the signal and convinced Lydia to come up to the Jacuzzi with me for a night cap. I was so excited as we made our way out to the rooftop only to find that it was basically closed, dark, and empty. After stalling for as long as I could, I told Lydia about how our time together has been so special and how I wanted to continue making special moments with her for the rest of our lives. I got down on one knee in the hot tub and pulled her close. She immediately starting laughing thinking I would whisper sweet nothings as usual when I asked instead if she would marry me.

For all the days along the way
