One faithful Friday afternoon I was heading home from a busy day at work. My plan was just to stop at Walmart and head home to nap. I settle in my spot in the parking lot, when my sis, Opeyemi aka Opaypay, called me to join our other good sis, Wumi aka Wumz, on her IG live. My sis was talking about relationships and naturally I had so many comments to make. So I hopped on and she and I had a lovely conversation on dating in this our millennial generation. So what does this have to do with Funmibi and I? Well, Funmibi who was a friend of Wumi on IG tuned into our live session and from there he started following me on IG. He never said anything to me personally, but I did notice that over the next couple of months, he would watch and like my weekly IGTV videos, like photos here and there, but that was it... Flash forward to September 2020, I was totally over all the tales of "situationships" I had been through. I spent that month in fasting and prayer and God assured me that His "Best" for me was on his way. And sure enough on Sunday October 4, 2020 I was out at a winery with my cousin, Bunmi aka AuntyBoomBoom, and she happened to snap a picture of me smiling and having a good ol' time. Who knew that that picture was gonna be the connection to my destiny partner? God truly has a funny way of establishing His divine connections in our lives. Within the hour, Funmibi responded to that picture that I put on my story, and the rest is literally history...
So Tomi and I knew very quickly into our relationship that this was going to be a forever journey. She had told me the kind of ring she would want and to be very honest, the topic of marriage came so naturally and fluidly between the both of us. It was on our second date that I made a comment to her that "Things can only get better from here" because in that moment I knew I had met my soul mate. She laughed with that her characteristic smile on her face and from there I was just waiting for all the other pieces to fall in line. Unbeknownst to her, I had started to plan my proposal to her since Christmas. By the time I came back from my holiday trip to Nigeria in January, her ring was already in production. I couldn't let her know that Valentine's Day was going to be "The Day", so I started throwing her off with different stories of how I would rather wait until around her birthday in May to pop the question, and she of course believed me lol. So a couple of weeks to Valentine's Day, I told her I was trying to find a restaurant where we could celebrate our first Valentine's Day together. We searched and searched but everywhere was already booked (Duh, lol, that was all a part of my master plan). So I called her a couple of days afterwards and told her that since most restaurants were already booked for the day, we should have a photoshoot together to celebrate instead. Knowing that Tomi is obsessed with photos, I knew she would fall for it. After church that Sunday, we start heading over to the photographer's studio. The car ride there was so weird lol, I wouldn't let her touch my phone as she usually does, only because I was sharing my location with the photographer so he could be ready for us. *Phew* we finally made it to the house, I walk her inside and the look on her face was priceless as she beheld the words "Marry Me" on the backdrop. So since we are here, I guess you know what her answer was :)
