Our Story

From Wahoo to Woo-Hoo!

Davon's Side (aka the truth) Aight y'all, so let me tell you how we went from being Hoos to engaged. Tomika and I knew each other back in undergrad, but we just didn't hang out together. We had friends in the same circle, were friends on Facebook, but never had a conversation that went further than "hi". Fast forward 10 years later (2017), I'm in DC for work and Tomika DMs me on Facebook (yep she slid into my DMs) letting me know that she was going to be in Chicago for a conference and wanted to know if I wanted to get together while she was in town. It was honestly an innocent invitation for two alums to catch up. We ended up meeting a few weeks later at a restaurant called 90 Miles from Cuba. After some good food, great conversation, and a lot of laughter I could tell that there was something special about this woman sitting across the table from me. Over the next five years we built a strong foundation as friends. In full transparency, I wanted to be more than friends not too long after we met for dinner in Chicago. However, Tomika (being the wise person that she is) recommended we build our friendship first; and I can wholeheartedly say that was one of the best things that we did in our relationship. Fast forward to 2022, we made the decision to progress past friendship and start dating. I was living in Maryland at the time, we were spending more time together, and we both saw that dating was clearly the next step for us to take. Some of you all knew that we were dating, and a lot of you didn't; which is just how we wanted it. Through our friendship and dating, God made it clear to me that this was the woman that I'd be spending the rest of my life with. So when August 24, 2024 came I was really nervous but excited to propose to one of the greatest gifts God has ever given me. There you have it, that's our story up to this point. There's been a lot of joy, laughter, growth, maturity, shedding, pain, doubt, and blessings that have taken place over the past seven years. I can honestly say there's NO other woman in the world that I'd want to spend the rest of my life with. Tomika has been one of God's Ephesians 3:20 in my life, and the fact that He included Camille with Tomika truly blows my mind in such a positive way. See you all at the wedding! Tomika's Version Davon and I met up in Chicago back in March 2017 when I was traveling there for work. I had tried to connect with him previously but he was somehow busy. While we never were friends in undergrad at UVa, I kept up with his professional career through Facebook and LinkedIn. We both shared a commitment to supporting college athletes and that made for a professional meet up (to me). Dinner in Chicago was plenty of fun: Davon has a great sense of humor and loves to eat just like me. Over the next few years, we formed a strong friendship. Honestly, he became one of my best friends. From catching up a few times a year over food, typically the Fishin' Pig in Farmville, and fun activities (he always beat me in bowling)...Davon became a staple in my life. Davon made his intentions known, even when I was not ready, and he was patient. To be honest, we have no date of when we first started our relationship. It kind of just manifested into something that we both needed. Being with Davon has been one of the easiest and best decisions I have ever made in my life. The icing on the cake is how much he loves and shows his love for Camille. He was destined to be a (bonus) Dad and Camille thinks the world of him. Once she approved of him back in 2022, there was no turning back. Although I almost ruined my proposal (long story...its a really great laugh), I couldn't even say yes when he proposed, the only words out of my mouth were "Of course!" I knew that we were called for a marriage that reflects God's love and restoration. I never thought I would be married. Lo and behold, Davon Robb changed all of that through patience, food, laughter, and unconditional love.
