Tom and Taylar started out as co-workers at Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS) in 2015. Tom made his presence be known for over a year through pranks and jokes he would regularly play on Taylar. He really leaned in to the company joke that the two should date, but Taylar always awkwardly giggled her way out of these conversations. Over time, the two built a friendship and even began to have more than friendly feelings for one another. The turning point came for Taylar when she was out on another date and found herself constantly thinking about Tom and wishing she were talking to him instead. Tom finally built up the courage to ask Taylar out on a date one week at work... and she proceeded to be out sick multiple days that week. Finally Taylar invited him to meet downtown with a group of friends for Halloween and after several friends asked Tom when he was going to ask her out, he pulled her aside and asked her on a date. They met up at a Des Moines Bucs game for their first date, and the rest as they (cheesily) say, was history.

Tom and Taylar had a trip to Florida planned for the middle of April. Taylar was so sure this is when Tom was going to propose, because they had been talking about this and teasing one another for months. Tom had spent the weekend before their trip talking about taking their dog, Dee, over to the park on Sunday when the weather was going to be nice. Taylar thought nothing of it and happily agreed, as they did this type of thing often. Come Sunday, Taylar was dragging her feet to get up and go; she even talked about skipping dinner that night at their favorite restaurant! Tom managed to get her and the dog out the door and over to a spot they had been several times. After spending time getting some good throws in for Dee, Tom started talking to Taylar really seriously. We’d love to tell you exactly what sweet words Tom said in that moment, but to be honest we both blacked out at this moment. All of a sudden Tom was down on one knee and asking Taylar to marry him... and she was shocked! She quickly said yes and the three of them (yes, Dee included) hugged, kissed, and jumped up and down with excitement. After 4 years of dating, Tom had finally popped the question!
