In January 2013 Jen and Tom met for the first time on a white water kayaking lesson on the River Nile in Uganda, Africa. Jen thought she was signing up for a day of flat water, bird watching kayaking. But she had actually signed up for some extreme white water kayaking and to meet the love of her life.

On the anniversary of when they first met, four years later, on top of Mt Gahinga (3474 m/11397 ft) a volcano in the Virunga mountain range of South-West Uganda, Tom surprised Jen with the question. They then stayed at a lodge on the edge of Lake Mutanda overlooking the mountain range where they had just hiked and got engaged.
