Though we both attended Auburn University at the same time, Justin and I did not meet until we found ourselves working together as interns in Birmingham, Alabama. We were each looking to gain professional experience, build our resumes, and even land a job. We were NOT looking for a relationship, much less our future spouse. But Justin and I immediately hit it off. We built a friendship on honesty and encouragement. I could always count on Justin to speak truth into my life when I needed it. As summer ended, I stayed in Birmingham, and Justin headed back to Auburn for his senior year. But soon fall came and with it came football season. My gameday visits to Auburn allowed time for our friendship to develop. As we grew closer the lines defining our relationship blurred until one October night when Justin admitted his love. But really, we had fallen for each other. Together our hearts were more loving, our words were kinder, and our time was more meaningful. On September 28, 2019-- after weeks of planning with friends and family-- Justin proposed in Jordan-Hare Stadium. My surprise paralleled the unexpected relationship that had developed while spending time together in that very place two years earlier. I gave my teary "Yes!" and Auburn subsequently destroyed Mississippi State 56-23 (read into that as you will). We know God has used every step and misstep of our lives to bring us together, and we're so thankful for that. There's no question: our love was always part of His perfect plan, but who's to say He didn't use the Auburn Tigers to give us a little nudge?
