Flight
Zürich Airport is the closest airport to the city of Lucerne. There are direct trains with SBB (the Swiss railway company) from the airport to Lucerne hourly. The journey is approximately 1h - 1h 15 min depending on the train and connections.

After you have picked up your bags at Zurich's airport, we recommend buying a point-to-point ticket to Luzern. You can also purchase a point-to-point ticket up to 3 months before your departure date to Luzern. The Switzerland public transportation system is one of the best in the world! You can easily move around the country on the extensive networks of trains, buses, trams/metros, and yes, boats!
