How'd you meet? Mike: We were in a poetry course together senior year. I was terrible, but she was really great. Maybe we'll do a reading at the wedding! Jac: Our masters program at Penn State—we had classes together in undergrad, but I always sat in the front of the class and Mike was too cool for that, so we didn't meet until later. Who made the first move? J: Mike, for sure. He asked me out and I said yes...and then I said no. We had a bit of a "will they, won't they" that no one really knew about. A few months and a lot of laughter later, it happened. M: I did. And I'd do it again! When did you know? M: There were many times I knew she was the right person for me, but I think the one where it really hit for us both was at a Panera in State College after graduation. She had just gotten off the bus after coming back from Nebraska, and it was the first time we really acknowledged we wanted to give post-college life a shot together. J: He stuck around during winter break I think probably longer than he normally would and came to my apartment just to play video games with me and my sisters. He was so bad. I couldn't stop smiling. And the proposal? J: It was incredibly sweet. He was so nervous even though I was the one in my bath towel! The memory is a wet, happy blur. M: Jacqueline is VERY hard to surprise, so I wanted to make sure I could do that. I took a half day while she was working from home and totally surprised her. I did not plan on her being fresh out of the shower... What excites you most about your future together? M: There are so many firsts for us still to discover together, and that really excites me—just to be able continue to build a life with a partner like Jacqueline by my side. I feel very lucky. J: There's already so much love in our lives, so for me it's about continuing to cultivate that love as our family grows. We're extremely grateful to have wonderful people in our corner.
