We met about 3 times before going on a trip to San Diego with friends in the summer of 2016. It wasn't until going on this trip that we officially started a conversation with each other. As a whole group we met up at a McDonalds before getting on the road to San Diego. I was sitting at a table eating my food, when Miguel approached me and asked if he can sit next to me. Little did he know that I had a crush on him and I was pretty nervous to talk to him. In San Diego we were able to take a walk on the pier and I remember sitting on a bench talking about our goals in life. We tried to talk to each other as much as we could without making it obvious to the group, even though they were all catching on. Once the trip was over, I remember feeling like we were going to go our separate ways and return back to how we were before. A couple days after, I received a text message from Miguel inviting me to youth group, and I agreed to go.

On the evening of August 4th , Miguel came to my house to pick me up to go to a friend's birthday party. On the way there we both looked at each other with empty stomachs and decided to stop at this Mexican restaurant that both of us never been to. Once we finished I entered the address of where the party was going to be into my phone and we started to drive the opposite way. I asked Miguel why he wasn't following the GPS and told me that he had to go do something really quick before. So as we were driving I noticed that we were in old town Glendale. I didn't really know where we were going until we parked on the side road next to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church ( OLPH ). Miguel then turned off the car and asked me if I would like to join him for adoration for a couple minutes, and I agreed. So we got down from the car and walked in. In the Chapel we found a spot in front of the Eucharist and started to pray. As we were kneeling, I was able to hear Miguel breathing become a bit heavier , which I thought he was having a moment with Jesus. Then I heard him say my name and I responded with a "ya". Then he said " I want to ask you in front of our Lord , If you would want to be my girlfriend". I was over filled with excitement but knew I couldn't do much since there were others in the Chapel praying. So I whispered to him "yes" and we continued to stay praying for a bit longer. After then, we knew that if we were going to date it would't be just dating, but dating with a discernment to marry one another.

It was two days after my birthday and Miguel had mentioned to me that his family were going to have a small gathering for the Día de la Candelaria at his house. I told him that after work I would be able to go over to help set up. As I was getting ready, one of my best friends ( Esmeralda ) invited me to come out to dinner with her. At first I told her that I wasn't going to be able to, but she insisted that I go and she could drop me off after since we would be near Miguel's house. So I agreed and we went to dinner. After, Esmie drove me to Miguel's house and when I got off I noticed that not only was Miguel's family here, but my family and our friends as well. I walked into a mariachi band playing las mananitas ( happy birthday song ) in spanish with Miguel in the middle with roses in his hands. I walked up to him and thanked him for this birthday surprise that I wasn't even expecting. When the music finished, Miguel asked if he could sing me a song and I agreed. His sister Cindy brought him his guitar case and laid it on the ground. He then opened the case and when he turned around he was holding a small box. The moment I saw the box, I started to tear up. Miguel then said " Selina Villalobos, te quieres casar conmigo" and he got down on one knee.
