I (Tiffani) sat down in my first face to face Civil Air Patrol class after working a 12 hour overnight shift. This class was held in a conference room at the emergency operations center where I work, I was understandably tired and sitting in a very relaxed position with my head resting on the back of the chair when then instructor, Capt McMahon, drew attention to me asking "I am boring you Lt. Schaffer?" I sat up and responded, "No Sir, I just worked last night and I am a little tired." I thought man this guys is rude, but cute... Well as we came up on the first break of the class Capt McMahon approached me and asked if I could have someone shut the gate to the parking lot to allow his dog to run a little but. I thought to myself , Oh first your salty now your sweet all because you need something. Needless to say I made a quick call to the supervisor and the gate was closed so Joshua could stretch his legs. At the conclusion of class, it was discussed with a mutual friend that I had a few people coming over for pizza, beer and a fire... and this is where his version and my version differ. Tommy says I invited him and well I think he invited himself...needless to say he showed up with beer and a smile. We stayed up talking all night and became instant friends. Over the next few years we would grow closer... became best friends, then apart and thankfully back together again. What can I say, he couldn't live without me and to be honest I couldn't live with out him either and I didn't want to. August 4,2023 he asked me to spend forever with him and of course I said YES!
