The Sugarloaf (aka Pão de Açúcar) is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the mouth of Guanabara Bay. This cable-car ride up the mountain provides incredible panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and the neighboring city of Niteroi. Tickets are expected to cost R$130,00 ($32 USD). Afterwards there is a great restaurant, Terra Brasilis, at the neighboring Praia Vermelho (Red Beach) where you can find tasty drinks and appetizers. Note: There is no strenuous activity for this event. A cable-car will take visitors directly to the top of the mountain from the ground.
Located just one block from the Bacellar's apartment, this expansive garden is a great place to experience and explore the diverse flora of Brazil. With a cafe in the garden, we recommend grabbing breakfast or lunch and walking around for a few hours. The garden was founded in 1808 by King João VI of Portugal. Originally intended for the acclimatization of spices like nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon imported from the West Indies, the garden was opened to the public in 1822. Tickets are expected to cost approximately $R60,00 ($12 USD). Note: This is considered a fairly strenuous activity. Though all ground is level, it is an expensive area with 'natural' terrain.
Everyone has heard the song 'The Girl from Ipanema', but have you actually ever seen her? This iconic, beautiful beach is a mandatory stop while in Rio de Janeiro. The selected hotel will be in Ipanema so this beach will be incredibly accessible to all guests. Umbrellas and chairs can be rented at the beach for just a few reais. Beers and water can be purchased from the same place. Additionally, vendors will come around selling drinks and snacks. We recommend grabbing "matte y limao" (1/2 matte, 1/2 lemonade) and Globos (tapioca-based 'biscuits') while there. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and juice bars to visit in the area after the beach. Note: Be sure to put on sunscreen and reapply!
Come see one of the seven Modern Wonders of the World while in Brazil. The Christ the Redeemer (aka Cristo Redentor) statue is the largest art-deco statue in the world, standing an impressive 38m (124ft) tall. While here, you will also get a breathtaking view of the city amongst the mountain range surrounding the area. Tati took Tyler there on his first visit to Brazil - he loved it. Tickets are expected to cost approximately R$85,00 ($18.00 USD). Note: There is no strenuous activity for this event. A tram will take visitors directly to the statue from a lower location in the mountains.
Super fun spot! Cachaça is a Brazilian sugar cane base liquor so this is a very traditional spot. They also have very typical Brazilian food. Fair warning, cachaça is strong so procced with caution!
Popular juice chain that you can find throughout Rio - Tyler's favorite flavors are strawberry and passion fruit! Reminder to ask for sugar (com açúcar) as juice typically comes without. It is a great spot to get açai if you are looking for a place to try it! Bibi also has sandwiches if you want a lighter meal.
Another popular juice chain that you can find throughout Rio with light food options.
