While we both worked at Bell's, our paths wouldn't have been likely to cross given that we worked opposite hours in different departments, TJ managed the general store and I (Alyssa) was a bouncer. But there I was, sitting outside on a sunny, 80-degree, November day, working security for a beer release the store was doing when this handsome guy with an awesome beard walks up and asks if I need anything. That question turned into a bunch of mini-conversations (as well as a ton of smiles. laughs, and stories) and then post-shift drinks and conversations with friends. And after a night of fun, and deciding we needed to have a dog walking date the next night, TJ, being the gentleman he is, gave me his jacket and walked me to my car, smiling the whole way. And from there, the rest is history <3
I knew after just a couple of months that I wanted to ask Alyssa to marry me. Honestly, the only tough decision was where and how I would do it. Over the next year I asked every couple I knew, and some I didn't, if they had any advice on proposals. I learned two facts from all those conversations. One, it won't go exactly as I planned. Two, no matter how well I was prepared, I would be scared. Well, all the advice I was given was spot on. The date and time of day I had planned on asking both needed to be changed last minute but thankfully the where and the how still worked. As we hiked up Angel's Landing in Zion National Park I was more nervous than I had ever been. I wasn't afraid of the answer, I was afraid of completely botching the question. Thankfully, everything seemed to line up as we approached the peak. A light rain started, clearing out most of the hikers, we met a photographer from South Africa who would, unknowingly, film the proposal, and after a year of planning, I finally realized I was about to tell my best friend that I can't wait any longer to spend the rest of our lives together. The rest is pretty straight forward. I killed it, barely cried, and she said yes.
