May 31, 2011: Tish & Matt met for the first time at an internship in the UMD Admissions office. Tish thought Matt was cocky because he answered the phone with too much swagger. Tish quickly got over herself and the two became friends. October 21, 2013: After they started working together again in August 2013, their friendship blossomed… into a sloppy first kiss on the second floor of Cornerstone Grill & Loft. Their friends observed from afar, shocked and confused. Later that night the two split an all-you-can-pack-in-a-box meal from Shanghai Restaurant. March 16, 2014: During a Spring Break trip, Matt told Tish that he wanted to “get to know her better.” Suave, right?! Tish thought Matt was insincere, so much so that she penned a skeptical note to her friend (and maid of honor) Jessica, who was also on the trip. This note will undoubtedly be read aloud at the wedding. May 5, 2014: Tish hit Matt with the “so what are we?” question. Matt, only considering post-college jobs in other states/countries, gave a resounding “I guess we’re dating.” They had their actual first date three weeks later. It lasted 11 hours and took place at no less than 6 distinct locations within DC. August 1, 2016: Tish & Matt were in a long-distance relationship for two years, where they perfected their communication skills (because they had no other option). Matt finally moved back to the DC area, and they were finally living within Metro commuting distance. August 4, 2018: Talking about moving closer… it was time to move in together! They’ve lived in Capitol Hill, DC, for more than three years now. They spend much of their time hosting potluck parties or curled up on the couch watching a YouTube loop of a crackling fireplace. November 14, 2020: Matt popped the question! Tish had NO idea that the proposal was happening. (Ask Matt about the hoops he jumped through to keep the secret.) And now, they’re asking you all to be part of creating a new date on this timeline. See you in May!
