How They Met

Here's hoping you see yourself in this story... because every one of you had a part in it:

It started off as many millennial cute meets do: Online. Hinge, specifically. Then an exchange of numbers. Then an accidental pocket dial from Tina... at midnight. Not just an accidental phone call, an accidental FaceTime. So, of course Jordan answered. Tina was embarrassed but Jordan was either too tired to notice or too enamored by Tina's Pollyanna outlook on life. So he struck up a conversation. Hours later, they had shared most of their lives, successes and failures, faiths and fears. Then Jordan fell asleep before they could hang up... but not before he asked Tina out on their first date.

Their First Date

No other bowling alley in Los Angeles holds more history than Highland Park Bowl.

Tina loves anything vintage and with a good story behind it. So Jordan decided they would meet up at Highland Park Bowl, LA's oldest bowling alley with cocktails named after one of Jordan's favorite movies, "The Big Lebowski." Tina had just come from visiting with her Grandma and as they sat at the bar waiting for their lane to open up, they finished their conversation Jordan had fallen asleep on. The evening was filled with playful banter and lots of laughter, poignantly peppered with a few tears and moments of sharing dreams both lost and found. It was evident that each of them had lived their individual lives to the point of rediscovery. Now they new exactly what they wanted and needed, and the difference between the two.

The Proposal

"Excuse me, would you take a picture for us?"

For 6 months, Jordan carried his mother's 25th anniversary ring in his pocket. He met with his jeweler routinely to discuss the design, "It has to sparkle as much as Tina." Then the holidays arrived. Tina had all but given up on the idea that she would be engaged within the year, but the ring was finally complete. They toured the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo, ensuring the holiday lights would bring out the brightest shine under the night sky. There, in front of a giant, adorned Christmas tree, Jordan got down on one knee... but not before someone asked, "Excuse me, would you take a picture for us?" "Sure," Jordan said, "I'd be happy to but I'm kinda in the middle of a thing. Give me 30 seconds." Thirty seconds later, "Honey, you have the worst timing," said the gentleman with the girlfriend who asked for a photo. Luckily, they took plenty of photos once they realized what was happening.
