Our first date was actually delayed by a week, so when we finally got the chance to meet in person (after spending every day talking to each other), we both took a huge chance on liking the other person and filled the day to the brim. We met on the steps of the American Museum of Natural History, where Theo had arrived (predictably and enthusiastically) far too early. Theo stole Tim's heart in the line for the planetarium show, when they cuddled up and started talking about the wonders of Carl Sagan's "Cosmos." Tim stole Theo's heart on their way out of the museum. Confused as to why he kept staring at the ground as they were walking, and wondering "does this guy like me or have I been making a complete fool out of myself talking about space and dinosaurs for the last 30 minutes?" Theo realized that the reason Tim kept looking at the ground was because he was silently and diligently guiding Theo away from every puddle to ensure their heels didn't get wet. Looking up, Theo realized Tim had also been steadfastly keeping the only umbrella right over Theo the whole time. Immediately after this realization, in the dark and pouring rain, on the freezing cold corner of Columbus Avenue and West 76th Street, Theo and Tim both shared their very last, and very best, "first kiss..." During which Tim accidentally poured all of the water he had so carefully kept off of Theo, with the umbrella, straight down the back of their dress. Theo burst out laughing, Tim couldn't stop apologizing, and that, as they say, was that.
Along the way of a two-week road trip, Tim and Theo pulled up to a small arboretum in a campus in Chapel Hill, NC. After a short walk, they stumbled on Morehead Planetarium. Though closed, Tim tried the door, which was locked. To Theo's surprise, they were then welcomed in and led into a private planetarium show covering love stories from around the world. At the close of the show, Tim asked Theo the question that brings you all here.
