At Last!!!

The day before Easter in 2014, Katie and Tim both volunteered for the same church service project, an Easter egg hunt and carnival for special needs kids and their parents. Both arrived at the event site around the same time. After checking in with the volunteer desk, both searched for their event t-shirts in large plastic bins. This is the magical moment when Tim first spoke to Katie, "I don't think they have your size, Little One." Offended and a bit taken aback, Katie quickly retorted, "I'm not a little one. I'm a grown woman." Tim's interest was instantly peaked. Throughout the event, the two chit chatted a few times. At the end of the event, the two parted ways without any expectation of seeing each other again.

After church one warm Antioch, CA Sunday morning in July, Katie bumped into Tim when leaving church service. After a few minutes of chit chat, Tim popped the question, "Will you go to breakfast with me?" Katie hesitated only for a moment before agreeing to accompany him. Over breakfast at Mimi's, Katie and Tim shared good, easy-going conversation, some deep thoughts, and lots of laughs. The date ended with a peck on the lips and an exchange of phone numbers. That evening, Tim texted and called Katie and planned date number 2.

After their first date, Katie and Tim continued to see each other exclusively and fell in love. Over the next four years, the two weathered the ups and downs of life together as a team. They supported each other unconditionally through the triumphs and challenges that life brought their way. Their love bloomed and blossomed into strong friendship and deep affection. Together was the only place they wanted to be. There was never any doubt that marriage was in their future. The only question was when that day would come.

In the fall of 2019, Tim told Katie he had planned a surprise date for them on Saturday, Sept. 14, and asked her to take the morning off from work. Katie was very intrigued and gladly obliged as she secretly wondered what Tim had planned. The morning of their date, the two were up and on the road well before dawn. An hour and a half later, the two were in Wine Country in the sheer darkness of a predawn morning. Katie was in the dark in more ways than one as Tim had still not yet revealed the surprise. Not one to keep secrets from Katie, there came a point when Tim couldn't hold it any longer and asked Katie if she wanted to know what the secret date was. She did and he revealed that he was making one of her bucket list dreams come true: the two were going on a hot air balloon ride! Katie was overjoyed and tickled pink! She felt as though she was already floating on could 9. Soon the couple were watching intently as the colorful balloons filled with the breath of life and rose to attention as the sun came up over the horizon. Once inside the balloon, the couple and six other passengers aboard Koda (the balloon) ooo'ed and ahh'ed at every aspect of the magical experience. While flying with the birds, in utter awe of the beauty of the earth beneath them and the joy of the breathtaking experience inside them, Tim's heart began to beat a little faster. He contemplated the one last secret he had to reveal. As Katie marveled at the scenery from the balloon, she was oblivious to what was going on in Tim's mind or behind her back. Then, she felt a tap on her shoulder...

When Katie turned around, she was completely shocked to find Tim down on one knee with ring in hand. While Katie's back was turned, Tim had stelthly handed his cell phone to another passenger, got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and tapped Katie on the shoulder. For just a moment, Katie was speechless. That moment of silence gave Tim an opportunity to ask her the question he'd been longing to, "Katie, will you marry me?" Without a moment's hesitation, Katie opened her mouth and out flew her response, "Are you serious? Are you serious? YES! Are you serious? Are you serious?" Smiles appeared on both their faces as they embraced each other and the exciting anticipation of their new life together as husband and wife.

The happy couple has chosen to exchange vows and join in holy matrimony in a private outdoor ceremony overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco on the anniversary of their first date.
