Pack layers as altitude increases, the weather is colder. Wear sturdy shoes and take plenty of water when hiking. Never go alone and always let others know where you intend to hike and when you expect to return. Be aware of wildlife in the areas you visit and how to handle wildlife encounters, such as bear bells, bear spray, etc.
