We never expected chemistry to bring us together. Well, more chemistry than just the compounds we were analyzing in lab. It was one of those classic college moments—nothing particularly remarkable, at least not at first. But here we were, undergrads thrown together as lab partners for the determination of alcohol concentration in hand sanitizers using GC-FID. It was awkward, and we barely spoke beyond the necessary instructions, and even then, it felt like we were strangers. After that, we both went back to our own worlds. But, as life would have it, we crossed paths again in the Chemistry Show. We started having these little chats during the chemistry show preparation that continued after the show was over. At first, there was the typical awkward small talk, but it soon developed into us talking more, and slowly those few minutes chatting turned into longer conversations and hangouts. And just like that, something that started as an awkward lab session turned into something way more meaningful. Because if we hadn’t been thrown together in that chemistry lab, if we hadn’t been paired up for the chemistry show, we would have never found each other.
