Like many people navigating modern dating, we both felt a little hopeless and defeated when it came to finding something real, especially as two individuals with a traditional outlook on the definition of a relationship. We matched on the online dating app, Hinge, and quickly realized we had more in common than we expected- we were both students in Grand Canyon University's Family Nurse Practitioner program. At the time, we were both early in our journeys, balancing long shifts at the bedside while trying to survive graduate school. What started as conversations about school, nursing, and life, quickly turned into encouraging and supporting each other through some of the busiest and most stressful seasons of our lives. As if we didn't thrive off chaos enough, we then decided to make the commitment to continue our forever together....& plan a wedding through our last year of grad school...YAY! For our first date, we headed off to Topgolf. This is where Madi quickly learned what the "asian glow" was... when she witnessed Jake drink half a beer. We then had dinner at Culinary Dropout in Downtown Gilbert. From the very beginning, conversation came easy and neither of us wanted the night to end. Somehow, the night eventually led us to closing down the grungiest dive bar in Downtown Gilbert...'Champs'. Even though Jake still had to work a 13-hour shift the next morning, we stayed out until the bars closed. By the time he dropped off Madi that night, we both already knew there was something special about what we had found in each other. This was a connection that could not be matched. From that day forward, not a day passed where we weren't eachother's first "good morning" and last "good night".
