Question

What should I expect at your Catholic wedding ceremony?

Answer

Don’t worry if you’re not a practicing Catholic. Our wedding ceremony is open to people of any faith or no faith. The role of guests at the ceremony is simply to supportively witness the wedding. Our wedding will take place during a Catholic Mass. In any Catholic Mass, there are several points where the congregation prays, sings, or says a creed together. Non-Catholic guests are welcome to participate or not participate at these times. Near the end of the Mass, the congregation comes forward to receive Jesus’ body and blood (the Eucharist). If you’re not a practicing Catholic, please do not receive the Eucharist. We encourage you to come forward to receive a blessing; please cross your arms over your chest to indicate that you are not receiving the Eucharist. You’re also welcome to stay in your seat during this time. We are so thankful you are coming to help support and pray for us as we start our family and make a life-long commitment to each other.

Question

Why is there a weird gap in between the ceremony and reception?

Answer

Catholic weddings occur earlier in the day in order to allow the church to be ready for evening Mass for the community. Our wedding should last from about 2-3PM. Our reception does not start until 5PM. During this short gap, guests can go back to their hotels and relax, enjoy some shopping or drinks at the Rim shopping center, play a round at Top Golf, or come to our house (less than 2 minutes from the church) for a small reception. If you need any ideas or suggestions, please see the "things to do" section of the website.

Question

What about COVID?

Answer

We are strongly encouraging everyone who attends our wedding to be vaccinated and please consider taking a COVID test prior to the wedding. We have a lot of immunocompromised family and friends- from cancer to pregnancy- and we want everyone to stay safe! We know the past two years have been hard for everyone and we really appreciate all the time and effort it takes to make sure everyone stays healthy! An extra THANK YOU to the many healthcare workers and teachers we are lucky enough to to have in our life! It’s been a rough ride and y’all are amazing! If you have any questions about this, please shoot Ashtyn a text and she’d be happy to talk with you!
