Fate brought us together on this handy dandy app called Tinder (you may have heard of it), where we both swiped right for each other! After many text conversations and a 3 hour phone call, Devin asked me out on our first official date. A simple frozen yogurt date turned into an all day event including frisbee golf, making breakfast for dinner, and playing "20" questions for 3 hours by candle light. I know this sounds corny, but looking back, we both knew this was the beginning of something incredibly special. Since we were living in different cities and going to school in different states, we had to make every visit count. We both met each other's families within the first week of dating (I know kinda crazy). After only two weeks of numerous trips to Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Muncie, Indiana to move me into my apartment at Ball State, we both told each other we had "never felt anything like this before". Devin asked me to officially be his girlfriend on August 14th, 2014, and we've been together ever since!
It was completely unexpected, and the most magical moment of my life. Three days before Christmas, Devin and I were already filled with the holiday spirit. He was on break from medical school and I was closing on my first house that morning. To make it even better, we were also having a group of our closest friends over for a holiday party that night. What could be better? After my closing, I was so elated, I called Devin immediately to tell him all about it. He was so thrilled for me, and insisted I come home immediately so we could celebrate. I then three way called my parents (which I never do) followed by my cousin, Leah, to tell them about the closing. (Little did I know they were the only three people in my family who knew what was coming, and how much happier I was about to be.) When I came home, there was a note on our front door with very specific instructions of what I needed to do when I entered our apartment. Now, to most people, this would be a dead give away for what was about to happen, but for us, leaving notes and surprises for each other is something we have done consistently throughout our relationship. When I opened the door, though, I audibly gasped. Our living room had been transformed. All that was there was our beautifully lit Christmas lights, and rose pedals in a circle surrounding a chair with another note on it reading, "press play and enjoy!". Devin had spent the previous 5 months creating, and I can say this with confidence, the most amazing proposal video ever made. As the video was coming to an end, my Mom, my Dad, Leah, and Devin's entire family appeared on the screen. Their words were, "Ari, say yes!". As I was hyperventilating with overwhelming happiness, I felt a hand on my shoulder; it was Devin. He pulled the chair away, took my hands in his, and began to tell me all of the reasons why he loved me, and knew I was the one. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! :)
