Formal, please. That means less formal than black tie so a tuxedo isn't required, but the event is still formal enough for one to be appropriate. For the ladies: A long dress, dressy separates, or a formal cocktail length dress (below the knees). For the men: A tuxedo or a formal suit, white shirt, and conservative tie.
The cocktail reception will take place in the Athenaeum's courtyard at 5pm. This courtyard is located directly behind the main building. To access the courtyard please walk around the side of the main building and enter through the side gate.
Unfortunately the indoor portion of the venue won't be ready until 6pm. But don't worry, Old Town, Alexandria bars are a plenty. If it is raining during the established cocktail hour the bride and groom suggest spending the hour at Virtue Feed & Grain, which is only a few blocks from the reception venue.
If your child's name was specified on the mailed invitation, then yes.
If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, the bride and groom would prefer if it was just you.
