Download WhatsApp! Most people use WhatsApp instead of texting here in Mexico. This will help you to make some reservations and communicate with other groups in the wedding during and after the event! Download it before you come to Mexico. You can use WhatsApp through your Data plan or through WiFi. Also... Check with your phone provider to see if coverage in Mexico is supported in your current plan. If not ask to buy data or international plan for your visit. You will be able to use wifi in most bars/hotels/restaurants to get to point a to b, but in case you’d like to be connected get a data plan or minutes.
The airport is a great opportunity to change your USD/Euros to Mexican pesos Exchange money houses (Casas de cambio) . We recommend to change $200usd just in case. You can use credit cards almost everywhere (except for street tacos/vendors/some markets/ some taxis in CDMX and San Miguel de Allende) . You can also get money out of ATM’s but will be more expensive then converting currencies because they will charge you arm fee plus conversion rate. There are Casas de cambio (change houses) and ATM's all over the city as well that might give you a bit better rate. What is the conversion rate? Roughly 20:1. Meaning you divide peso price by 20 and that is how many dollars you are spending.
Uber / Didi: These are the most widely used ride apps, safe and are used daily by all. Download these before you reach Mexico and get your accounts setup. This will be your main mode of transportation anywhere you need to go to in Mexico City. If you’ve never used the application try it out in your city. The apps are very cheap to use in Mexico City! Uber: is an application you can download prior to coming to Mexico through Apple or android App Store. You can pay with your credit card through the app or with cash. Uber is most used and recommended , but a bit more expensive than Didi. Didi: is an application you can download prior to coming to Mexico through Apple or android App Store. This is a great backup app in case Uber is not working. You can pay with your credit card through the app or with cash, it’s just like uber. Didi can be used all throughout Mexico City. Didi CANNOT be used in San Miguel.
In San Miguel de Allende, you can use the Uber app. However, please note that sometimes there aren’t enough cars available due to high tourist demand. For this reason, we also recommend using local taxis, which are a reliable and convenient option. Most hotels have contacts with taxi companies and can help you schedule one if needed. If you’d like to arrange one directly, you can contact this taxi company: 📞 +52 415 113 7519

Go to where there is a big line, this usually signifies it’s good with a lot of turnover. - I (Tim) have never gotten sick, however I have a strong stomach. To avoid any risks of getting sick and ruining your trip, look at our taco spots that we recommend :)
These are the tips I give to anyone travelling in any city in the US, Europe, or Latin America.: Do not keep your phone on the table when at a restaurant/bar Keep your phone in front pocket and aware at all times. When taking pictures be aware of your surroundings. Keep your wallet in your front pocket and aware at all times Walk with purse with strap going across chest and closed. Walk with only amount of cash that you need. Decide where you’d like to keep your passport. Recommend to keep in your hotel room (locked up or in your clothes in suitcase) or in a safe pocket when walking around out side hotel. Have 5 pesos change to go to bathroom in some public areas and on highway.
