Covid 19 Wedding Updates

Please refer to the FAQ page for more information about COVID restrictions at our venues. For those who can not celebrate in person with us, we will be hosting a live video feed of our ceremony at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Details can be found on our schedule page, under the Virtual Ceremony Event. We hope you can celebrate with us virtually!

How We Met

We met through mutual friends in the Fall of 2013. We ended up being in the same math class the next semester and that’s when Tim really started wooing Maegan. In typical Maegan fashion, she had no idea that Tim was attempting to flirt with her. Fast forward to the summer of 2014 and both of us were working at internships in different cities. Through lots of texts and Snapchats, we slowly got to know each other a little bit more. Tim, the President of the Steel Bridge Club for the 2014-2015 school year, convinced Maegan to join the Club that upcoming Fall. Through club meetings and house parties, we started to see each other more and soon realized that we should go steady.

The Dating Life

The long-distance relationship began when Tim graduated in the Spring of 2015 and started his career in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Maegan was still attending school at Iowa State University. Maegan got her first apartment off campus that fall and decided that now would be the perfect time to adopt a cat. Many trips along Route 30 occurred that year as we continued our relationship with each other and Tim got to know Harvey (the cat) better. Tim had the opportunity to transfer to Des Moines and took it so “he could be closer to his love”. In the Spring of 2016 Tim bought a house in West Des Moines and started living with his college buddies Brandon and Sam. Life continued on and when Maegan went back to school in the Fall of 2016 for her final year, she had the new title of the President of The Steel Bridge Club. We worked through the stress of Maegan’s final year at school and after graduating in the Spring of 2017, Maegan began her career in Des Moines.

Things are Getting Serious

As we were able to see each other more often and spend more quality time together, the new question becomes what’s next? Tim worked to finish his basement in the new house and both worked to grow in their careers. Tim finally finished his basement in the Spring of 2018 and Maegan moved in with the boys that Summer. Domestic bliss followed with attending many friend’s weddings, visiting parents and friends, and enjoying every minute together.

The Engagement

On April 23, 2019, we had dinner plans to celebrate Tim’s 28th birthday in downtown Des Moines. We decided to go to Hessen Haus, a German beer hall and one of our favorite places to go! After enjoying a beer, Tim insisted on walking to the next brewery, Peace Tree, another one of our favorite places! On the way, Tim began to talk about our love of steel bridges and how we met through the Steel Bridge Club at Iowa State University. We also happened to be walking across an old steel railroad bridge at this moment. Tim stops mid-bridge, grabs Maegan’s hands, gets down on one knee, asking the BIG question, “Maegan, will you marry me?”. Maegan of course said Yes! We finished celebrating the night by calling our families and letting them know the big news and eating dinner at Simon’s.
