When choosing where to get married, we wanted a location that felt meaningful, exciting, and unique to both of us. For years, our families have talked about taking a trip to explore our Irish heritage, and Dingle seemed like the perfect place to bring that idea to life. Its stunning coastal scenery, opportunities for adventure, and rich Irish traditions create an incredible blend of beauty and authenticity. When we visited Dingle this November, we instantly fell in love with its charm and warmth. We can’t wait to share this special place make unforgettable memories with all of you.
The closest international airport to Dingle is Shannon (SNN), about a two-hour drive away, with direct flights available from Boston, Newark, JFK, and Chicago. Cork airport (ORK) is also a 2 hour drive, with flights or layovers from London and many other European cities. Dublin Airport is another option, approximately a four-hour drive from Dingle. We recommend renting a car from either airport and soaking in the magical drive to this stunning coastal town. Since Dingle is located on the remote southwest coast of Ireland, there are no major highways or airports nearby—part of what makes it so special. The journey is meant to be savored, offering breathtaking views and a more leisurely pace that sets the tone for your time in this special place. Note: in Ireland you pay for gas inside at the cashier AFTER you finish pumping.
We completely understand that driving on the left side of the road isn’t for everyone! Feel free to reach out to us—we’re happy to help you plan an alternative method of travel to make your journey as smooth as possible. The currency in Ireland is the euro (€). Many places accept credit cards, but it’s a good idea to have some local cash on hand for tips or small purchases as it would be in the US. To get euros as an American, you can exchange U.S. dollars at a bank, currency exchange service, the airport, or through an ATM in Europe. Alternatively, you can use a travel card or a multi-currency account that allows you to withdraw euros directly.
Ireland’s weather can be unpredictable, so we recommend packing layers and a good waterproof jacket. October can bring wet and windy conditions; however, mild, sunny days are common. Average temperatures range from the high 40s on the low end to low 60s on the warmer end. Rain is common, so a raincoat is always a good idea. If you’re planning to spend time outdoors, sturdy shoes are a must!
Ireland is in the Greenwich Mean Time Zone (GMT) during winter months and in Irish Standard Time (IST, GMT+1) during daylight saving time, which runs from March to October. This means that during our wedding weekend, Ireland will be +4 hours from EST and +7 hours from PST.
Tipping in Ireland is not mandatory but appreciated. If you would like to leave a tip for your drivers, servers, or hotel staff, 10-15% is customary.
