This is one half of the Aquidneck Island trails experience. Here, you'll be able to witness the agricultural side of the island as you walk on a trail that passes through new forest, neighboring cow pasture, private school athletic fields, and grasslands. Check out the different landscapes and make a note at how the land was used to support the urban center that is Newport!
The other half of the Aquidneck Island trails experience is a 3.5 mile hike from one point to the next. Feel free to turn around when it is necessary. The trailhead starts at Easton's Beach, and ends at one of the tips of Aquidneck Island. The terrain gets increasingly difficult and technical as you continue on, so be prepared for some rock hopping after about 2 miles. Here, you'll notice the wealth that sustained Newport as a competitive economic center. Great views, and a trail that'll leave you tired, but with your curiosity sated.
This neighborhood is at the forefront of the historical preservation movement with it's historical homes and densely packed housing. Check out the Battery Park for a coastal view of the bay, the bridge, and the decorative elements of all the old homes. If you're really interested, check out some of the programming that is offered by the many historic preservation nonprofits that work in Newport, including the Newport Restoration Foundation.
A neighborhood in the northern end of Aquidneck Island, and closer to Glen Manor House, it is extremely walkable and is a much quieter part of the island. There is a beach and a boardwalk, but is a little bit more sparse when it comes to stores and shops and such!
Our favorite garden store. Such a gorgeous space!
Narragansett is stunning, and this restaurant has a front row seat to spectacular ocean views!
