Our story started at Prom, I had asked Courtney to take a picture together. She was caught off guard, since we weren't friends at this point. Unbeknownst to me, this insignificant act would end up being the start of our forever. Courtney & I continued to talk that day, & after Prom, all I knew is that I wanted to spend more time with her. Through the Summer, we were with each other frequently. It was at Summer's end, when my heart started to sink. We were going off to college. Courtney was off to Lincoln, NE, & I was to spend my next four years in Iowa City. I had to make her my girlfriend. As a side note, I had tried to ask Courtney out twice before, but both times I was ignored. As the old adage goes, third times the charm. The night before leaving to college, I asked her out a third & final time. She said no.. kidding, I wouldn't be writing this if that were the case. She said yes. It was, and is, one of the best days of my life. The first problem was solved, Courtney was my girlfriend. Now, the second issue: how will I get to see her? I did not have a car, & was not as affluent as I would've hoped, so flights were out of the question. After hours of Google searching, my prayers were answered. Megabus: fares starting as low as $1. This was a God-send. We were going to make long-distance work. My first trip to see Courtney, I wanted to be a surprise. Her new roommate, Paxton, didn't know me, but that did not stop me from shamelessly messaging her on Facebook to see if she could grab me from Omaha, where the Megabus dropped off. The gem that she is, she said yes. It is no surprise why she is in our wedding party, & still one of our dear friends today; she has a heart of gold. Four years later, we would finally be in the same city. After seven years of dating, spending more time together than we had apart, I took her back to the same place we took our first photo. That is where she made my dream a reality; she agreed to be my wife. Here is to forever, CKH!
