How we met

We actually met through everyone's favorite mutual friend, the internet! I had avoided online dating for years because I was adamant that I wouldn't be telling my kids that I met their father online. After a few less than satisfactory relationships after moving to Boston, I gave in and signed up. Chris was actually my first online date! There was an immediate connection on the first date and I was so thankful I gave online dating a try. He continuously teases me now because being new to Boston traffic I severely underestimated traffic returning from my new job outside the city and was 30 minutes late to our first date!

The Proposal

In September 2019, I had a brief break from traveling out-of-state every week so decided to start the process of finding an engagement ring. It took a few weeks but I finally found the perfect ring and had the jeweler hold it until I was ready. After getting confirmation from Sam's parents that I was good to ask their daughter's hand in marriage at the end of November, I targeted the second weekend in December to make it happen. Our first date was at Tia's and we frequently visit the Boston Seaport area so that seemed like a perfect spot. I think it would be ideal to say that Sam had no idea something was coming but she picks up on the smallest things. I had a few of her friends text me that she was getting suspicious with how I was acting the weeks leading up so I did my best to not give it away. The day of the proposal, it was a dreary morning in the city and we got brunch at State Street Provisions right next to Tia's. Sam had been planning a shopping trip with her friend Christina that day and was confused on why she had to be at brunch with me SO early in the morning (10:30am). After brunch, I mentioned that we should walk to Columbus park (where we had our engagement photos taken) next to Tia's to see if there were any dogs around. When we got to the park, we got out of the rain under the Tia's awning out front. That's where I decided to get down on one knee; although it was awkwardly delayed a few seconds as I saw a homeless guy walking by and didn't want him to ruin our moment. Following the proposal, I surprised Sam with all our family and friends at Bostonia Public House downtown. It was an awesome day and I can't be more excited to call Sam my wife in April 2021.
