Visit North Carolina's first state capital and take a tour of the house, gardens, and museum.
There are so many cute shops and delicious restaurants in downtown New Bern! Check out a few of our favorites - Midtown Olive Oil, Mitchell's Hardware, and Morgan's Tavern (the croissants are to die for). As well, you will find numerous art galleries featuring local artists. Also downtown is the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola. Stop for a drink and look around the shop!
Visit the Firemen's Museum to "Learn about the oldest fire company in the state, experience the Great Fire of ’22...talk to Fred, the beloved fire horse, and be part of something unlike any other". Connor and I took the tour last year and they've now expanded to the upstairs of the old firehouse as well. It's super interesting and a great way to learn some New Bern history!
Civil War Battlefield Park - take a walk and read about the battles that took place in New Bern during the Civil War. You can still see the trenches that were built and used! Flanner's Beach - Walking trails, picnicking, and a great view of the river - we love to visit here with Kato! Union Point Park - Right downtown with great views of the Neuse and Trent Rivers Glenburnie Park - Short walking trails, picnicking, frisbee golf course
Take the free tour to learn about this Civil War-era fort (which is actually super cool)
A short 45 minute drive east will take you straight to Atlantic Beach and just 15 minutes more south will place you at Emerald Isle for some swimming, fishing, and sun bathing,
You're probably wondering where to chow down at while you're here! Our favorites for breakfast are Baker's Kitchen and Carolina Bagel Company. For lunch check out the Indian buffet at Bay Leaf right downtown. There are some great options for dinner as well; Morgan's Tavern, MJ's and The Chelsea are a few of our faves!
