Yes! We are working with our planner to put together an itinerary, which will include things to do the days before the ceremony and the day of the ceremony. We will share the final version once complete, but here’s a rough idea to help you plan: - Tuesday June 9: Fly out of Boston around 9PM - Wednesday June 10: Arrive in Iceland early AM, spend the day in/around Reykjavik. Spend the night in hotel in Reykjavik. - Thursday June 11: Boat ride to Westman Islands (https://visitwestmanislands.com/to-westman-islands/). Spend some time on the island, take the ferry back and drive to Vik. Group dinner/drinks in Vik. Spend the night in hotel in Vik. - Friday June 12: Explore around the Vik area during the day. Wedding activities will start in late afternoon/early evening, including visiting a few locations in/around Vik to take pictures. Ceremony will take place around 11:30 PM, with a picnic to follow from about 12AM until 1AM. Spend the night in hotel in Vik.
We are working with Pink Iceland, specifically Gloey is planning our wedding. Here is their website if you'd like to check it out: https://www.pinkiceland.is
Yes! We will be staying in Reykjavik the night of June 10th, at Center Hotels Plaza. There are many hotels in Reykjavik- feel free to book your favorite! We highly recommend staying in Vik the nights of June 11th and June 12th. We will be staying at Hotel Kria. We'd love for as many people to be staying at the same hotel as us the night before and the night after the ceremony. There are also two other options included on the Travel page. Vik is very small and has limited accommodations- booking your hotel in Vik as early as possible is recommended. Our ceremony/wedding events will likely be going until 1AM, and so you’ll want to be staying as close as possible to Vik!
We are leaving Boston the night of June 9th and arriving in Iceland early in the morning of June 10th. We recommend flying on the same date or earlier if you'd like. Check out the Travel page for our flight info if you’d like to be on the same flight! We will be sharing more information on what we have planned for the days before the wedding (June 10 & June 11) so we’d love for people to have already arrived in Iceland by then.
To fully experience Iceland, we do suggest a car rental. We have used Blue Car Rental in Iceland previously and recommend booking through them. A discount is available through our planner- please see the Travel page for the direct link. When booking a car, we strongly suggest booking the full rental insurance. Iceland is known for its strong winds, especially in the south, which can easily lead to damage. Full insurance will eliminate any liability for damage.
Hotels should be booked as soon as possible, especially in Vik. We are traveling during the busy season in Iceland, and there are only a few hotels in Vik. As Reykjavik is a bigger city, there are many more hotel options but for maximizing your options, we suggest booking all hotels at the same time. Like hotels, we suggest booking your flight as soon as possible as well!
Here is a great website with more information about how to prepare: https://icelandweddingplanner.com/2013/11/05/what-to-wear-to-an-iceland-wedding/ Be prepared for any sort of weather- layers are key! Please plan on formal attire, while remaining practical. A waterproof/windproof outer layer will be important as well since we will be outside.
Layers! Weather is unpredictable in Iceland and it's best to be prepared for the varying conditions.
