Our Story

It started with a gunshot. Maybe that’s dramatic, but there were definitely guns involved. Somehow the bride and groom were both compelled to try out for the H.S. rifle team in 2008. No one really even knew the district had a rifle team until Jumell and Tiffany were on it. It was there that this story begins (although, Jumell will tell you he first noticed Tiffany in their Technical Drawing class that same year). A friendship flourished: a close one. They spent their practices and matches teasing each other, as their coach passively remarked: “I better be invited to that wedding.” Wedding? Oh, no. They were best friends. If anything, Jumell would one day be Tiffany’s ‘Man of Honor.’ It only took two years for them to realize their coach might be onto something. Tiffany and Jumell made things official on September 21, 2010. Tiffany was in her freshman year at Hofstra University, only 5 miles from where Jumell was in his senior year of high school. A year later, those miles would increase, by a lot. It was a rifle team that brought them together, but also a rifle team that would draw them apart. Jumell was accepted to shoot at Morehead State. 675 miles away. Jumell’s greatest opportunity would be their relationship’s greatest challenge. Miles and time proved to be no match for our favorite couple: they made it. When Jumell graduated, in 2015, he and Tiffany began to talk marriage. But Tiffany had begun Hofstra Law School, and they agreed to wait to take any next steps until their educations were complete. By the time Tiffany became a JD in May 2017, they realized their love was stronger than any classroom, more advanced than any degree, more powerful than even the strongest rifle. That same week, the two flew to Hawaii. It was there, on a candlelit beach at sunset, that Jumell dropped to one knee, that the ‘man of honor’ was promoted to groom, and that a decade-old premonition came true. Hey, Coach? That wedding is on May 23, 2019. Hope you can make it.
