In 2013, Tiffany moved back to Seattle from a year stay in Uganda working at a study abroad program. She landed at a job at FareStart (a foodservice job training program) that kicked off her career in September of 2014. In 2014, Dan was seeking a new life and city after completing his military career in Germany. His journey led him to Seattle. While seeking his next steps in life, Dan decided to work with The Mission Continues, which placed him in a volunteer role at FareStart. In October 2014, Tiffany's and Dan's worlds collided at their place of employment. After a year in her role at FareStart, Tiffany was ready to move to a different department and the selection process was long underway. While waiting for the decision, she saw the hiring manager (Rob) giving a new employee (Dan) a tour of the building and saw them walk towards her. Rob introduced Dan to Tiffany and said, "This is Dan, who will be working with me." Tiffany's heart dropped. She did not get the job; this new guy did. She instantly did not like Dan. As for Dan, he fell in love with Tiffany at first sight, allegedly, and had no clue about her ambitions working in a new department. Fast forward a few weeks. Rob formally offered Tiffany the job she applied for. She was elated, but confused about what role Dan was in. It turned out that Dan was a volunteer and they were doing two different roles but would be working together. As time went on, Dan and Tiffany became friends. They gave each other relationship advice, fought with each other, Tiffany met his parents when they visited Seattle, and she was one of the first people to meet Battle (Dan’s dog). During this time, Dan never asked Tiffany out. Since they worked on the same team, Dan felt it was best to stay friends. Eventually, Dan's time at FareStart ended and soon he decided to move to Virginia to finish his MBA and pursue work in the military sector. Tiffany and Dan separated physically but stayed in touch. In 2016, Tiffany moved into another role at FareStart that allowed her to travel for work. Her first trip was to the DC area. Tiffany decided it would be great to meet with Dan in Virginia. During her many visits to the east coast, they would meet up to eat lunch or dinner, and he would drop her off at her aunt's place in Maryland on her way to work in Baltimore. They did this for a couple of years to catch up. When Dan would come to Seattle, he would also meet up with Tiffany. Even in 2022, Dan spent Mother's Day with Tiffany's family who were visiting Maryland. People would ask if they were dating and they would say, "no." By November 2022, Tiffany had already left FareStart and had a new job (remote) in Alexandria, VA. She was in town working at the office and wanted to hang out with Dan again. They went to Top Golf and grabbed pizza at Frank Pepe's (world's best pizza according to Dan). At this point, Dan insists he had a plan all along. As Dan was dropping Tiffany off at her car, Tiffany decided it was time to confront their relationship. Dan went in to give Tiffany a hug goodbye and Tiffany said, "Have you ever thought if we should be more than friends?" Dan replied, "Let's talk about this when you're back in March." Tiffany protested and said, "No! We are discussing this now!" Dan relented, gave Tiffany a kiss on the cheek, and said, "Yes, I have thought about it." Dan’s plan worked! So that is how Tiffany and Dan started dating. It took 8 years for them to come together, but they made it. They both flew back and forth from their respective cities to be together and have had many great adventures and stories along the way. They have both realized that timing is key on everything and everything works out in due time.
