Our story began in 1993 at McCord Junior High School in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Like many great love stories, it didn’t start with fireworks—but with familiarity. Two students sharing the same halls, unaware that their lives would remain connected for decades to come. By 1995, we attended Benton Harbor High School together, where our bond continued to grow. One of our favorite shared memories from those years was singing together in the choir—a simple reflection of how naturally our lives harmonized, even then. Jeremiah even wrote Tierra a love letter in 11th grade—proof that he knew early on—but his romantic efforts would have to wait a little longer. In 1999, we proudly graduated together, closing one chapter while unknowingly setting the stage for many more. Shortly after graduation, life led us in different directions. Both Jeremiah and Tierra married other people and began building our own families. Yet, through every season of life, we remained friends. Over the years, we celebrated one another’s accomplishments, laughed endlessly at reunions, shared drinks at the occasional c/o 99 winter break Applebees' meet ups, and supported each other through disappointments. We created new memories together—especially during class trips - with the Smoky Mountains being both of our favorite! As our 25th high school reunion came to an end, something shifted. Jeremiah told Tierra that he would be coming to Ann Arbor soon—to hang out and take her on a date. Tierra smiled, thinking to herself, “Sure, Jeremiah.” But Jeremiah meant every word. The very next month, he came to Ann Arbor. On August 10, 2024, we went on our very first date at Sportsway in Westland. Our time together was filled with fun and laughter—go-carts, putt-putt golf, dinner, and finally a quiet stroll through UofMs campus. What felt long overdue finally became reality—a moment that confirmed what time, friendship, and God had already prepared. The year that followed was filled with intention—learning one another’s hearts, attempting to spend every weekend together, attending church together, embracing each other’s children (Jay's boys, Tierra's girls), forming lasting bonds, and creating new memories as a family in the making. Exactly one year later, on August 10, 2025, Jeremiah made it official. With the help of Tierra’s daughters, he creatively planned a proposal that reflected not just his love for Tierra, but his commitment to the family they were building together. What began as a childhood connection grew into a lifelong friendship—and ultimately, a love story written with patience, grace, laughter, and perfect timing. Our journey is proof that what is meant for you will always find its way back and that God always has a plan.
